Final Exam

You should have:

1. a minimum of three motion tweens
2. two text effects
3. one shape tween
4. one button

The card can either play straight through for 30 seconds, similar to the intro to your final project, or it can be interactive with three buttons, similar to your button homework assignment.

You can import photos, but use small images or use the trace bitmap feature when possible to reduce file size.

Create an animated greeting card for someone you know. One idea is a holiday card for family for all that they do for you.

Be silly. Be nice. Have fun. Be creative.

One place for inspiration: www.hallmark.com

Make it personal, if possible, using photos, quotes. Make someone’s day.

You can import vector art, but do your own text effects, masks.

Peer Review of Final Project Due

A working copy of your final project will be presented in class.

Classmates and instructor will provide formal feedback. Both the navigation and animated movie should be working, with just final design and content to be added.

This is draft is graded and must be posted under the appropriate header on your homework page.

HW#8: Buttons II

1. On your stage, draw some background elements for your first Flash website.

2. Draw some additional elements in the to create a “brand” for a fictional company. You can import a logo and copy text for this assignment.

3. Make one simple button (or use one from last week) and place three instances on your stage. Each instance of the button will “play” one section of your site.

4. Make three movie clips with animations to be your “content containers.” Each clip should have a motion tween and some text. The timeline of the movie clips should look like this:

screenshot of movie clip timeline

**all should have stop actions on the first and last frames.
**all should have a minimum of two layers…one for an animated transition, and one for the text and headline.
**the first frame should either be invisible, or integrate with the scene (be a piece of the tv or a picture on the wall) so people are surprised when the animation plays.
**the animations should all fit into the scene.
**at least one movie clip must have an animated movie clip inside (like the fish example in class).

5. Create four layers on the main timeline: one for buttons, one for each of the three content sections.

6. Place movie clips in each of the “content” layers. Make sure they are located in an appropriate place on the stage. ***REMEMBER: Name each instance of each movie clip you place on the stage.

7. Place the buttons and assign behaviors as noted in the lesson post.

Each button should play one movie clip instance on (release), and stop all the other movie clips on (press).

***Tips:
1. Place all your buttons and movies clips on the stage before assigning the actions to the button instances.
2. Each button will have three “Go to and Stop” behaviors “on press” and one “Go to and Play” behavior “on release”.
3. Movie clip instances must have unique names (different than their symbol) and should not start with a numeral or be more than 13 characters.

QUIZ I: Tweening

For this quiz you will be asked to duplicate the sample Flash movie below using motion tweening, motion guides and shape tweening.

>>Quiz sample movie

Layers (in order):
trees: Graphic “tree”
sand: background image drawn directly on stage
water moving: Movie Clip “water” with shape tween (uses three keyframes to make water flow left, then right)
bird flying: Movie Clip “fly” with motion tween with guide (uses graphic symbol “bird”)
sun setting: Movie Clip “setting” with motion tween of setting sun (uses graphic symbol “sun”)
sky changing: Movie Clip “sky” with shape tween (color transformation)
words: Movie Clip “text” with masking with gradient on background

Library
bird (graphic)
fly (movie clip, motion tween with bird on motion guide, 60 frames, stop action on last frame optional)
setting (movie clip, motion tween with sun, 60 frames, stop action on last frame optional)
sky (movie clip, shape tween, 60 frames, stop action on last frame optional)
sun (graphic)

Workflow for posting on homework page:
1. Create Flash movie as noted above; save as quiz1.fla in your student folder.
2. Go to File/Publish to create the quiz1.swf file.
3. Open Fetch. Connect to www2.bc.edu with your username and password. Double click on the www folder, then double-click on the aw folder.
4. Use the Get command to download a copy of your index.html page. Minimize the Fetch window. IMPORTANT: If this downloads to the desktop, move it into your student folder before opening.
5. Open your index.html in Dreamweaver (if you are prompted about moving into a root folder, click cancel)
6. Use Insert/Media to insert quiz1.swf into your homework page at the top of the page.
7. Save your index.html page.
8. Using Fetch “Put” both the updated index.html page and the quiz1.swf file into your aw folder.
9. Go to Safari and view your homework page. If your quiz is not showing, review the directions and try again.
